Circle of Joy
I've mentioned (on the few posts that I have) how much I wonder how my mom managed 2 kids, work and home... Well, now, am back being a stay at home mom after almost 6 years - the last stay at home period lasted 6 months back in 2006.
The first week was a bit crazy. It felt strange being at home, felt guilty to watch TV, sinful to read a book. This week has been better... We're settling into a new routine, a much nicer one! Infinitely preferable!
The morning routine hasn't changed much. I still wake up early, pack my kids (and Richie too!) lunch, put the kids on their school bus... and then, it is all quiet until the evening routine starts, but much, much earlier and the days end quietly with no fuss, crying, whining or yelling!
All of them all say I have changed into a much nicer person. I don't scold, scream or yell anymore. And that I have started singing again (for no apparent reason). Hmm... I like to think I am a very reasonable person and don't behave irrationally. Everything I do has to have a purpose... Of course it does... at least, to me! But, take away 11 hours in a day to work+commute, 8 hours of sleep. I have 5 hours in a day. Seems like a lot, but count in hours to do chores, homework, music practice, cooking, help the kids/Richie with their daily stuff and there's no time for myself, except late in the night when all I can do is crash into bed exhausted! Phew!
I do see the change in them too, especially the children. They are very happy to see me at home in the evenings, happy to demand a snack and get it (instead of a "Please could you get it yourself."), happy when I take them down to play in the park, happy that I don't yell when there's a mistake in the homework, happy to have me sit with them for dinner. I hear more "Yes, momma!" than "No!", "Go Away!", "I don't like you anymore!", "Please stay in your office and don't come home!", etc, etc, etc.
The family being happier, does that make me a nicer person??? Yep! I would definitely like to think so. It does make me happy that they are content and I guess that reflects and bounces off others and keeps the circle of joy going...
