Our Vacation... a prelude...
It's been a long time since I updated the blog. I was extremely busy and didn't find the time to be in a "good" mood to write. Today, my manager took the afternoon off. As the saying goes, "The mice play when the cat's away!". I am strangely in a much better mood and have no work! :)
Anyway, I decided to write about the vacation, we took around July 4. It was very nice and we had a lovely time. We were planning to travel to the East Coast and by a bizarre turn of fortune and a wee little bit of unabashed threats from me, dad decided to drive us down to The Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee. It was a 10 hour drive, so we decided to break our journey at Virginia, a half way point and visit the Shenandoah Valley too! The trip was much looked forward to, but did not plan well for this trip. Still it went well, I should say!
We started off bad though. The weekend before our vacation, we went twice to the rental company to get our car exchanged for a newer one, so that the car won't die down midway. But, we did not get any good cars. The second time, though as we were leaving, I spotted a Pontiac SUV, a car Dad had been eyeing and wanting to drive for a long time. Imagine our surprise, when the rental company agreed to let us have it! Unfortunately, the next morning, the car died on us, the battery completely drained. It could not even be jumpstarted and was towed away. It had some major engine problems, we were told. But, as God always plans the best, we were given a Volvo in exchange to compensate for the other car giving us issues! What a blessing! God gave us a reliable, safe, comfortable, spacious and luxurious car to go on our vacation...
We planned to cook food for all the days of our vacation. So, I planned the menu and we bought loads to ready-to-eat MTR packets and decided to just cook rice at the hotel. We ordered for a microwave at all our rooms and so, we enjoyed yummy, home cooked food everyday. There was a food store closeby too where we could buy yogurt and to our luck, on-sale microwaveable vessels at a dollar each! I planned and brought food to reheat and eat, but forgot to bring vessels to cook them in! :(
For the prelude, which means the first leg of our journey - from home to Front Royal, Virginia, we were able to comfortably make it to VA in one stop. We tried, yes, tried to beat the traffic but I was late as usual and we were able to leave only at 3. But, I was able to pack dinner and get everything in order before we left. The little one promptly fell asleep in the car, as it was naptime. About 2 hours into the drive, we stopped for coffee and a snack. The little one had a diaper change too!
The rest of the journey was a breeze. We noticed the farmlands in Pennsylvania, how little time it took cross Maryland and West Virginia and we were finally in Virginia. We sang songs, counted trucks, listened to music, played peek-a-boo and finally we were there. We reached Front Royal at around 8pm and our vacation had started.
Dad and the little one washed up while I reheated dinner. We ate heartily and went to bed dreaming off the days to come!!
