A night out at home!

Yesterday, I sent the kids to school with a promise of pizza at home later that evening. Since the dough takes the longest, I made the dough in the morning. The dough had risen well and then the thought occurred that this could make a good naan and it did come out pretty good. Since I was working through this on my own, there are no step by step pictures, just the end result. So, you are on your own if you decide to try this!

Naan:

Whole wheat flour - 2.5 cups ( you could make this with just maida. I don't like refined flour)
Salt - To taste
Warm water - 300ml
Active dried yeast - 1 Tbsp
Sugar - 1\2  tsp
Oil  - 3 tsp
Oil to grease the bowl

1. Add yeast to the warm water and stir in sugar and leave aside for 6 to 8 minutes.
2. To the flour add salt.
3. In a bowl, take the flour and the yeast water and oil.
4. Mix together till a dough ball forms. Knead a little more like you would for chapathis.
5. Place the dough in a bowl greased with oil and roll the ball around till it is well coated with the oil. (You would need atleast 2-3 tsps of oil here.)
6. Cover the bowl with damp towel and place in a warm area to prove. (I warmed up the oven and put it in there. Just placing it in the sun or near the stove works too).
7. Leave it out till the dough has doubled in volume.
8. After the dough is proved, bash the air out.
9. Roll out the dough using as much flour as needed to prevent it from sticking.
10. On a hot tava, cook it out like chapathis.
11. Add butter/ghee/oil, after it is cooked.

And, here's a shot of the chicken curry I served the naan with.
No leftovers, so I guess it turned out pretty good and me a happy person. I didn't spend hours in the kitchen either. :)
